When people and elephants meet in tea plantations or rice paddies, tragedies are inevitable. The documentary film reveals the living conditions of elephants living amongst the settlements of people. As a matter of fact, the habitat of elephants is fragmented, and shrunk to an almost non-existing level. Elephants around Golaghat in Assam have no habitat. Highly populated areas and the behaviour of people have pushed elephants to the limits. Consequently, tragedies are inevitable. Together with an organisation of effected farmers, a young couple found solutions to the disastrous problem by re-establishing fodder habitats for elephants adjoining the forest and therefore secure the lives and harvest of farmers and provide a peaceful coexistence with the pachyderms and the people alike. They decided to plant large areas of food for the elephants and therefore mitigated the conflict to level zero. EFZH is a solution oriented investigational documentary film about the grave situation of human-elephant-conflict in Northeast India, showing that every conflict can find its own solution, as long as we show love and respect.

Where the Elephant Sleeps

Elefantendorf Jaipur.

Illustrated Sanskrit books from the Maharaja era replace English medicine in the struggle to save elephants in Elephant Village.
Numerous fever daemons plague these elephants. Can the healer battle them successfully with the Ayurvedic medicine?
The film director finds herself thrown into her own film when an elephant named Sita succumbs to her infected wound. With a telephone in one hand and a camera in the other, she finds a doctor banned by the elephant owners, and struggle for Sita ́s euthanasia. Dozens of federal and Rajasthani officials descend on the usually quiet Elephant Village, and congregate around the festering elephant, who, in record time, despite the obstacles, becomes the first official euthanasia in Rajasthan, perhaps India`s history.
